Buying original Indian folk art online

Most searches for Indian folk art return prints, posters and mass-produced reproductions. This is not that. Every piece in this shop is painted by hand in our studio, signed by the artist, and sold once — when it's gone, it's gone. We ship worldwide, insured and tracked, either rolled in a tube or stretched and ready to hang.

The traditions we paint in

Madhubani comes from the Mithila region of Bihar, built from fine double-line work and filled with fish, peacocks, lotuses and figures from epic poetry. Pichwai is Nathdwara temple art, traditionally hung behind an idol of Shrinathji — dense, devotional, and often gold-touched. Gond is Central Indian, made of dots and dashes that build up trees, birds and the stories that live in them. Warli is the most pared-back of all: white pigment, geometric figures, whole village scenes told with triangles and circles.

Alongside those we paint Kalamkari (pen-drawn narrative work from Andhra Pradesh), Lippan (Kutch mud-and-mirror relief), Mandala, Pattachitra from Odisha, and Kalighat from Bengal.

Choosing by subject rather than by style

Many collectors arrive knowing what they want to see rather than which tradition it should be painted in — a Krishna for a quiet corner, a Ganesha for an entrance, Lakshmi for prosperity, or Buddha for a room meant to be calm. Our devotional collections group work by subject across every tradition, so you can compare a Madhubani Krishna against a Pichwai one side by side.

The same is true of motifs. Seven Horses is chosen for momentum and often bought for an office. Tree of Life reads as growth and rootedness. Peacocks, koi and florals are the brighter end, and the ones most often bought as gifts.

Sizes, surfaces and formats

Work runs from small squares around 10 × 12 inches up to statement pieces at 36 × 36 inches, in rectangle, square and circular formats. Canvas, paper and wood are all available depending on the tradition. Canvas pieces ship either rolled or stretched as a gallery wrap; paper works are shipped flat and unframed so you can frame them to your room.

Commissions

If nothing in the shop is the right size, palette or subject, we take commissions in any of the traditions above. Tell us the wall and the feeling you're after, we share a concept, and we paint once you're happy. Corporate gifting and bulk orders are welcome — we've made work for teams at Adobe, Airbnb, Qualcomm, upGrad and Shoppers Stop.

Shipping and authenticity

Every order ships with a certificate of authenticity naming the artist, the tradition and the date of completion. International delivery is insured and tracked throughout. Because each piece is unique and painted to order in some cases, dispatch times vary by item and are shown on the product page.
